Here’s another great example of how drones or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) are being used for new worthwhile use cases. This is a partnership between UAS company Matternet and delivery giant UPS in bringing to fruition a program for the WakeMed hospital campus in North Carolina.

Typically, blood deliveries within this campus environment may have taken hours to get accomplished, whereas the UAS can get them accomplished within minutes during a handful of scheduled flights each day.

UPS leverages an advanced group within it’s organization that focuses on innovation areas such as this UAS usage at WakeMed. This particular use case is using a Matternet M2 quadcopter that can carry payloads up to 5 pounds over a distance up to 12.5 miles.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) are overseeing the program and everyone has been impressed by the innovation and achievement in putting this program together.

We love our DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone and you may have seen it used in a variety of our videos here on the Julie and Shawn website, whether capturing surfing in Costa Rica or chasing my Father-in-law’s new WWI biplane down the taxiway at the local airport.
